Police, fire brigade and bomb squad investigate car explosion in Whitehall

WHITEHALL, Pa. (KDKA) – Police, fire and the Allegheny County Bomb Squad are investigating an explosion in Whitehall.

Just after 6 a.m., police were called to the 4400 block of E. Barlind Drive in Whitehall for what they described as a loud explosion.

When we arrived at the scene, the focus was on a blue Toyota SUV with broken windows and what appeared to be an explosion.

Whitehall Police Chief told KDKA-TV that when they arrived there was a lot of smoke in the area and they believed there might have been an explosion inside the vehicle.

No one was in the vehicle at the time and no injuries were reported.

The police chief also said that while the investigation is ongoing, there is no threat to the community.

The Allegheny County Bomb Squad was called in to assist in the investigation out of an abundance of caution.

Teams continue their work to find out the cause of the explosion.
