Most pubs in Britain mapped: Towns, cities and regions with the most pubs in the UK | England | News

A new map shows the areas with the most pubs in the UK.

Reach PLC’s data unit found that the Derbyshire Dales is England’s biggest pub and has the most pubs in England and Wales.

According to official figures from the Office for National Statistics, there are 132 bars within the borders of the region.

This means that there are 184.5 bars per 100,000 people in the region.

This may seem like a surprise, given the region’s rural setting, but it’s no surprise that the capital London also features heavily at the top of the list.

The Derbyshire Valleys are the best stocked area; except for two outliers where the low number of residents skews the figures.

These are the City of London (80 pubs, equivalent to 594.3 per 100,000 people) and the Isles of Scilly (six pubs, equivalent to 269.2 per 100,000 people).

Second on the list is Westminster with 357 pubs. This is equivalent to 43 bars per square mile and 168.8 bars per 100,000 people.

There are more London boroughs on the list. Islington has 37.7 pubs per square mile, while Camden, Kensington and Chelsea have 24.6 pubs per square mile.

Outside London, Portsmouth has the highest concentration of pubs, with 134 pubs. This works out to be 8.6 per square mile and is the 11th highest rate in England and Wales.
