Marian girls soccer advances to state final

(WNDU) – Five high school football teams in our viewing area played semistates on Saturday, but only one of them will play for the state championship next weekend.

The Mishawaka Marian girls soccer team earned its ticket to next weekend’s Class 2A state final in Indianapolis by defeating Hanover Central in a shootout.

The Knights (16-3-2) survived Hanover Central’s tying goal and two scoreless overtime periods in the final games before outscoring the Wildcats 4-2 in PKs.

No. 3 Marian will face No. 2 Lawrenceburg (20-1) in the state championship next Saturday at IU Indianapolis at 1:30 p.m.

Our other four local representatives on the semi-state tour saw their seasons come to an end on Saturday. The Westview girls lost 1-0 to Faith Christian in Class 1A, while Penn’s girls team lost 4-0 to Noblesville in Class 3A.

On the boys side, Concord lost 1-0 to West Lafayette Harrison in Class 3A, while Bethany Christian saw its hopes of repeating the state championship in Class 1A end in penalty kicks to Covenant Christian (0-0, 4-2 PK).
