Illegal Chinese Mobile Jammers Found in Delhi Market, Shop Owner Arrested

The devices can disrupt mobile signals up to 50 meters.

Delhi:

Two illegal Chinese jammers were found in a shop in Delhi’s Palika Bazaar on Saturday; this posed a threat to security and violated the Center’s guidelines prohibiting use or sale by unauthorized persons. Police arrested the shop owner, identified as Ravi Mathur, as he did not have license and documents to sell the devices.

According to the centre’s rules, Chinese jammers can only be used by authorized government and defense officials with special licenses and documents.

According to Mathur, he bought the jammers from Delhi’s Lajpat Rai Market for Rs 25,000 and was aiming to sell them at a higher price.

The devices, which could disrupt mobile signals up to 50 meters, blocked all cellular activities in the surrounding area, including incoming and outgoing calls and SMS. The jammers forced the disconnection of all calls currently in progress and the phones showed a “no network” sign.

In criminal cases, police will not be able to track what communication is taking place at the scene due to jammers.

Delhi Police has informed the Telecommunication Department about the incident, officials said.

They also added that they were conducting searches in other markets in the national capital.
