Toys ‘R’ Us opens new standalone store in Chicago suburb

Toys “R” Us has officially opened a new standalone store in suburban Chicago. Norridge.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Saturday at the new 10,000-square-foot space in Harlem Irving Plaza, featuring an array of popular toys and brands including Lego, Barbie and Hot Wheels.

The company closed its last stores in the United States in 2018 after filing for bankruptcy. Now, under new ownership, it is reopening stores across the country just in time for the holiday season.

“I used to go to Toys ‘R’ Us all the time when I was a kid. They closed all the stores… But now they’ve opened a new store it’s like ‘oh my god, I can go now’ I finally became a Toys ‘R’ Us kid again,” said one customer.

The first 50 customers who came through the door on Saturday received free gift bags.

Toys “R” Us plans to open 24 locations nationwide in 2024.
