Eagles’ Pass Rusher Penalized for Low Hit

PHILADELPHIA – Bryce Huff recorded his first loaded sack as a member of the Eagles in last weekend’s 28-3 victory over the New York Giants. But this cost the forward runner $16,883.

The NFL imposed this penalty on Huff after reviewing the film. Huff was penalized for roughing the passer (contact at or below the knee area) even though no flag was thrown at this time.

Huff, who signed a three-year, $51.1 contract as a free agent this offseason after a 10-sack season with the New York Jets, struggled a bit as the Eagles tried to turn him into a three-point scorer.

In his first six games in Philadelphia (four starts), Huff recorded 1.5 sacks, three quarterback hits and seven QB pressures along with six tackles (one for a loss) while playing 171 defensive snaps (45% of the Eagles’ total). ) noted.

Huff’s playing time went from a high of 54% in games against Cleveland on October 13 to a low of 32% in New Orleans on September 22.

Giants second-year Nolan Smith became the starter in the Eagles’ core five-man front in favor of Huff, who moved back to more familiar pass-rushing situations.

“I think Nolan, in particular, continues to improve as the season progresses,” defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. “He’s not a big guy, per se, as far as advanced players go. But he won the other day in an offense where it was more of a power type offense and he needed to incorporate that more into his game. And that was a good thing. Look, in Bryce’s case, the past “We had a few passing situations in the game that allowed him to play more.”
