No concessions from Steven Miles, David Crisafulli vows to start working in Queensland

Outgoing prime minister Steven Miles’ speech contained neither concessions nor congratulations to the prime minister-elect, despite showing that the Liberal National Party was in the majority.

“Queenslanders know what I believe in and what I stand for, and David Crisafulli has bent, knitted and tied himself to the smallest, smallest target Queensland has ever seen,” he told a room of cheering supporters in a pub.

“This election ends with many more questions than answers about the LNP’s plans.”

He said it was an extraordinary result given “what we were up against.”

“We will learn more as counting continues in the coming days, many seats are too close to call,” Miles said. “It was always going to be a tough election for Labour, but I have no regrets about my campaign or the last 10 months as prime minister.”

Miles shook a little as he thanked wife Kim, sons Aidan and Sam, and daughter Bridie for their support.

“Your support enables me to do this work, thank you for joining me on the campaign journey and thank you to Bridie for featuring in my weird sandwich videos,” he said.
