Police engage in gunfight with teen in Aurora, leading to boy’s death: SIU

Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating the death of a teenage suspect who was shot by York Regional Police officers in Aurora on Wednesday night.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said someone called police to report a break-in at a home on Downey Circle just before 8 p.m.

The SIU said a gunfight broke out after the 17-year-old boy and four police officers arrived.

The observer said the teenager was shot multiple times and died at the scene, while a police officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The SIU said five investigators and three forensic examiners have been assigned to the case and the autopsy is scheduled to be performed in Toronto on Friday morning.

Ontario’s police watchdog covers police incidents where someone is killed or injured.
