A man accused of murdering his mother after her body was found in a rural caravan park has been photographed for the first time.

Callan Davidson, 29, was charged with murder after emergency services were called to a property on Henry Street in Gunnedah in north-central NSW at around 8.20am on Friday.

Police found his mother, Cheryl Davidson, apparently in her 50s, seriously injured in a nearby tent and she later died at the scene.

Police also found a man allegedly covered in blood.

Davidson, whose address was given as Gunnedah Tourist Caravan Park, was later arrested before being taken to Gunnedah Police Station.

He refused to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday and his case has since been adjourned to Tamworth Local Court on Monday.

It is understood a court order has been issued to notify NSW Justice Health that Davidson must be assessed for mental health. Daily Telegraph reports.

Police investigated the scene yesterday morning and a knife was found nearby before it was seized. A forensic examination will be conducted at the scene.

Callan Davidson, 29, was charged with murder (domestic violence) in the death of his mother on Friday.

Earlier, NSW Police Chief Inspector Michael Wurth described the scene as ‘traumatic’.

Chief Inspector Wurth said officers felt a sense of urgency when they saw the allegedly bloodied man.

He also revealed that the couple are local Gunnedah residents.

‘We believe the male has been at the caravan park for about two weeks, but the other individual… lives in a separate house.’

A report will be prepared to be submitted to the forensic physician.
