    New details emerged about the MP shooting the machete man in TO

    The shooting of a machete-wielding man by a deputy at a Thousand Oaks mall Thursday morning followed a series of earlier incidents involving the suspect, authorities said Friday.

    Ventura County Sheriff’s officials said Friday afternoon that the 50-year-old Thousand Oaks resident, whose name was not released, was hospitalized in critical condition.

    Man He was shot for allegedly threatening workers inside a bakery at the Ventu Park Shopping Center in the 500 block of Ventu Park Road. The center, anchored by a Ralphs grocery store, is located at the southwest intersection of Ventu Park and Hillcrest Drive.

    Deputies had responded to calls about multiple incidents at the center shortly after 6:20 a.m., including a suspect threatening people with a machete. Authorities initially used a stun gun on the man, but he then ran into the bakery and was shot. The sheriff’s office is contracted to provide police services in Thousand Oaks.

    On Friday, authorities released new details about the case.

    Before the incident at Ralph’s headquarters, the suspect reportedly used a machete to break the window of the nearby Palm Garden Hotel.

    He then walked to the 76th gas station and attacked a man with a machete during a carjacking, according to the sheriff’s statement. The victim suffered minor injuries.

    According to Friday’s update, the suspect abandoned the stolen vehicle and confronted another man in his parked car in the parking lot outside Ralphs, damaging the victim’s car with a gun.

    After the deputies arrived, they tried to detain the suspect who was holding a machete. When the man failed to comply, a deputy deployed a stun gun, but the suspect was not incapacitated after being tasered.

    The suspect fled to Sarai Bakery Panaderia. He approached two male employees, ages 32 and 42, in a threatening manner while armed with a machete, causing them to open fire on a deputy, sheriff’s officials said.

    The deputy who shot the suspect was placed on administrative leave, as is standard after a law enforcement officer uses serious force. The incident will be investigated by the sheriff’s office and the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.

    Thursday’s incident was the second shooting by a local police department this week. On Monday night, officers with the Oxnard Police Department reportedly shot a man. pointed a gun at them following an earlier shooting in the Via Marina neighborhood. The next day, the 34-year-old man was said to be in stable condition.
