Botetourt County deputies arrest man wanted on probation violation after breakup

FINCASTLE, Va. – The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office arrested a suspect wanted for parole violation in connection with a home invasion.

A search warrant was issued for the fugitive on Wednesday. Deputies were dispatched to Brookfield Ct in the Brookfield subdivision around 6:15pm after being alerted that a wanted man was at a home there.

Law enforcement officers arriving at the scene attempted to speak with the suspect; but he refused to surrender and hid himself inside the house.

After repeated unsuccessful attempts to negotiate with the individual, deputies obtained and served a search warrant to enter the building and safely apprehend the suspect.

According to the sheriff’s office, the front door was forced open around 9 p.m., and the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was identified as 52-year-old Steven Burnette of Roanoke. He was charged with obstruction of justice and was served with the original probation violation warrant.

Burnette is currently being held without bail in the Botetourt-Craig Regional Jail.
