Police say man shot in Bessemer was talking to officers at the time of his death

One person died in a shooting attack in Bessemer on Thursday night.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Tavares Deone Moore. He was 44 and lived in Bessemer.

The shooting happened at 8:56 p.m. in the 2900 block of Ninth Avenue North.

Moore was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m.

Bessemer police Det. Justin Burmeister said Moore was shot multiple times but was able to speak briefly with officers before he died.

No arrests have been made yet, but the suspect and the victim knew each other and police had a clue to the suspect’s identity.

Moore is Bessemer’s 11th murder this year.

In all of Jefferson County, there were 166 homicides, including 11 in Bessemer.
