Grammy-winning singer Jack Jones, known for singing ‘The Love Boat’ theme song, dies at 86 – Delco Times

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — Grammy-winning singer Jack Jones, known for the theme song of the television show “The Love Boat,” has died. He was 86 years old.

Jones died Wednesday night at a hospital in Rancho Mirage, California, after battling leukemia for more than two years, according to a statement from his manager, Milt Suchin.

Jones began her singing career in the 1950s and won two Grammy Awards for best vocal performance in the 1960s; one with the song “Lollipops And Roses” and the other with the song “Wives and Lovers”.

In later years, he was nominated for several Grammys, including for his album “Jack Jones Paints A Tribute To Tony Bennett” in 1999.

In 1980, the theme song for the television show “Love Boat” reached #37 on the Billboard US Adult Contemporary songs chart. Jones was also a frequent guest on the popular romantic comedy show, where guest stars from Gene Kelly to Janet Jackson would come aboard for a cruise and fall in love.

A social media account for “The Ed Sullivan Show,” an American television variety show that has aired for decades, shared on Thursday on X that Jones lit up the show with smooth vocals and unforgettable performances.

“His music will inspire us forever,” the post said. “Thanks for the memories, Jack. Rest in peace.”
