Lavish lifestyle sells cash grab – Newsday Zimbabwe

National police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi arrested Chisanako yesterday, adding that the vehicle was transporting cash from Beitbridge to Mutare.

The last two weeks of October saw 24-year-old Kelvin Chisanako’s life change overnight when he went on a spending spree in a poverty-stricken community.

Fellow villagers in Mwenezi, Masvingo province, were astonished by the speed with which they purchased assets, including a Toyota Aqua vehicle, construction material and fashionable suits, within two weeks.

Their suspicions were put to rest last week after it was revealed that these were the fruits of ill-gotten riches.

Chisanako was arrested this Sunday for allegedly stealing a safe containing a large amount of cash amounting to US$20,000 from security guards who dropped her off in her car along the Beitbridge-Mutare Highway on October 17.

National police spokesman Commissioner Paul Nyathi arrested Chisanako yesterday, adding that the vehicle was transporting cash from Beitbridge to Mutare.

“On November 3, 2024, Masvingo police arrested the suspect at Mangwawo village in Mawarire in Mwenezi after receiving information that he was in possession of a large amount of cash. Nyathi said the suspect told police that he had stolen the money from a cash-carrying vehicle he was in at Lutumba Business Center in Beitbridge.

“The arrest resulted in the seizure of US$600, which the suspect purchased for US$9,800, as well as ZAR 2,320 in cash, an empty safe and a Toyota Aqua vehicle with registration number AGO 5702.

“Investigations by police established that the suspect used some of the money to purchase 30×12-foot roofing sheets, 35x50kg bags of cement, seven window frames, two French doors, 15,000 farm bricks, a mobile phone and three men’s clothes.”
