Body found in fire in Cambria County | News, Sports, Jobs

A brush fire reported in Cambria County has turned into a death investigation after a burned body was found after the flames were extinguished.

The body was found on Route 56 in Haws Pike around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Cambria County District Attorney Gregory Neugebauer. Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees was called to the scene after the body was found near the Cambria and Westmoreland County border.

Neugebauer said at a press conference that the death was suspicious and was considered a homicide. The cause of death was not determined.

County officials are working to identify the victim and are asking anyone who has lost a family member or friend to call the West Hills Police Department, Neugebauer said. The victim was described as a white male in his late 40s or early 50s.

Neugebauer said the death appeared to be a targeted incident and there was no danger to the public.
