Prince William gave a powerful speech at the fourth Earthshot Prize Award ceremony in Cape Town on Wednesday, with a special salute to the African continent.

As a sign of respect for the African continent, the Prince of Wales began his speech with greetings in nine languages representing North, East, West and Southern Africa.

In his speech, William expressed his gratitude for the “warmest and most generous welcome” he had received on his visit, and went on to speak of his “passion for championing the spirit of creativity that sent a man to the moon within a decade.”

Prince William, who founded the initiative in 2020 to find solutions to repair the planet, shared that he was inspired during his trip to Namibia and Tanzania. He said he was “fortunate enough to see some of the stunning wildlife that calls this continent home”.

“What really struck me was the incredible impact local people had on the environment around them,” William said. “Thanks to their ingenuity and ingenuity, biodiversity was returning, animals were protected and jobs were created.”

He continued: “I saw firsthand how people devoted their time, talent, and vision to solving environmental challenges, but they were not getting the support they needed to scale or replicate their solutions around the world.

“But I believe our world can be rich with possibility, hope and optimism.”

After expressing his support for attendees and solutions that will help the planet heal, William concluded the talk by thanking the audience in more African languages.

“Dankie, Enkosi, Daalu, Asante, Thank you,” he said.
