Police officially begin search for missing 46-year-old Wylie woman

WYLIE, TexasThe search continues for a missing Collin County woman who left her home and never returned.

Melonie Ballenger, 46, was last seen at her home in Wylie on Nov. 3, leaving her vehicle and phone behind.

Police are appealing for the public’s help but have not released any possible circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Melonie was last seen lying at the Wylie home on Parkwood Drive at 10pm on Sunday evening. Her husband, Daniel Ballenger, says when he woke up, she was gone.

“Obviously, we were scared. We were worried about him,” he said. “I just want it back.”

Daniel called Wylie police around 6:30 Monday morning to report his wife missing. Police said he did not take his cell phone, car or critical medication.

“We don’t know where it is, but it could be anywhere,” he said. “And we’re asking for everyone’s help out there.”

Wylie police conducted an extensive search of the area with K-9 units and helicopters.

While police have not shared the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, they say they are pursuing all avenues in the investigation.

Meanwhile, the Wylie community rallied around the family.

“There is so much love in our family right now,” Daniel said. “We love Melonie and want to bring her back home.”

The family’s church, Gateway Community Church, printed and distributed thousands of missing person flyers. They also held a prayer vigil on Tuesday night.

The support means the world to Daniel and his two young daughters.

“It was incredibly difficult,” he said. “I have two little girls who miss their mother and go through a month’s worth of emotions every day. It’s hard.”

Melonie said searches have yet to yield any results and police are trying to find the next location to search.

Police asked family and friends not to conduct their own searches so K-9s could better track his scent.

Ballenger is stated to be 6 feet tall, weighs approximately 135 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Pollard at 972-429-8014.
