One person killed in motorcycle crash in Cherokee County

GAFFNEY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office says a man died following a motorcycle crash Wednesday.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) reported a 2005 Honda motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Hopewell Road near S.C. Highway 5 around 1:21 p.m. Wednesday.

SCHP said a 2012 Rollback mechanic was stopped while trying to make a left turn westbound on Hopewell Road.

According to police teams, the motorcycle rolled over from the right side of the road, overturned and passed under the truck and returned along the road.

The Cherokee County coroner identified the motorcycle driver as 47-year-old Mark David Cook and said Cook was not wearing a helmet when he was thrown from the motorcycle.

He passed away from his injuries at Cherokee Medical Center shortly after 2:30 p.m.
