Celebrity Chef Tobias Dorzon among 2 injured in double shooting in PG County: police

Two adults, including famed Chief Tobias Dorzon, were shot during an attempted armed robbery in a Prince George’s County neighborhood.

According to police, the attack happened around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday night in the 2500 block of Kirkwood Place. Police said four suspects tried to rob a man and a woman as they were returning from dinner. They were both shot and injured and taken to the hospital.

Dorzon, chef and owner of Huncho House in Hyattsville, Maryland, was recently named the 2024 Maryland Chef of the Year by the Maryland Restaurant Association. He is the first chief from Prince George’s County to receive this honor.

He also appeared FOX 5 DC’s Lion Lunch Hour several times, as well as various Food Network shows like Chopped, Tournament of Champions, and Guy’s Grocery Games. He currently hosts Time Out with Tobias on ESPN+ and Hulu.

Dorzon is known for his passion for cuisine and commitment to the community. He said he wants to continue to grow the district and give it something it never had.

Council Member Wanika Fisher released a statement regarding the attack, saying Dorzon was a valued member of the District 2 community and a dear friend. Read the full statement below:

“I am disappointed and saddened by the news that Prince George’s County restaurant owner Tobias Dorzon was one of two men shot during an attempted robbery in my area Tuesday night.

Chef Dorzon owns two wonderful restaurants in Hyattsville, is a valued member of the District 2 community, and a dear friend. Such a terrible act could not have happened to a better person. I express my deepest condolences to him and the second victim, their families and friends, and wish them both a speedy recovery. This type of senseless violence has no place in our town or district.

Earlier this year, I had the honor of recognizing Chef Dorzon with a proclamation when he was named the Maryland Restaurant Association’s 2024 Chef of the Year, the first chef from Prince George’s County to receive this award. He is an extremely talented chef who has represented our country on the national stage while appearing on various Food Network programs.

“I want to see those responsible for this heinous act held accountable to the fullest extent of the law, and I look forward to seeing Chef Dorzon back in the kitchen soon.”

Police have released descriptions of four of the five suspects involved. A male wearing a black hooded jacket, light-colored jeans and a semi-automatic handgun.
