Plans to demolish former Rushden police station for housing

Plans have been submitted to transform a derelict former police station into a block of flats and houses.

The dilapidated property in Rushden was sold in 2019 and North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) approved proposals to demolish the property to build five three-storey townhouses three years later.

The latest development calls for a three-storey block of flats to be built to the front of the existing building and the addition of two further two-bedroom houses to the rear.

Applicants Harea Homes (AHH) said the demolition of the “decaying” building removed a potential area where criminals or squatters could hide.

AHH described the building as “an eyesore due to its decay.” Local Democracy Reporting Service in question.

It has been confirmed that the new development will include 15 parking spaces, which will be shared between seven one-bedroom flats and four two-bedroom flats, along with two houses.

The application was verified by the NNC at the end of October and the consultation period will run until 28 November.
