NYPD: Death of 1-month-old baby on Staten Island’s South Shore ruled murder

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The July death of 1-month-old Joseph Heben Jr. of Tottenville was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner.

Police were called to Staten Island University Hospital in Ocean Breeze around 7 a.m. on July 20, where hospital staff told officers Heben was unconscious and unresponsive while being transported to the medical facility by private vehicle, according to a statement from the Deputy Commissioner of the New York Police Department. Public Information.

The baby was pronounced dead that Saturday, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was tasked with determining the cause and manner of death.

According to the police statement, no arrests have been made and the investigation continues.
