3 Takeaways from Rams’ OT Win

The Los Angeles Rams (4-4) won their third straight game and finished second in the league on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Seattle Seahawks (4-5) in overtime. There were many bright spots on both sides of the ball, but three key takeaways made the biggest impact in the victory.

Demarcus Robinson Is a Problem

Robinson has been out of the spotlight for the past two weeks, including making the game-winning one-handed catch in a 26-20 overtime win over the Seahawks. Robinson had eight receptions in his last two contests, four of which were caught for touchdowns.

The eight-year veteran had a pretty quiet start to the season but has put in a big performance lately. Even with star receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua returning from injury, Robinson is still finding plenty of targets and making big plays when the balls go his way.

It’s valuable for the coaches to have a third threat alongside Kupp and Nacua in the passing game, especially a player with big-play experience. Robinson was part of the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs in 2020.

Defense Played Its Best Game of the Season

The Rams defense couldn’t have performed better last week. Three interceptions, seven sacks, and a huge fourth down in overtime were the reason the Rams were able to win this game.

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was under pressure all day, and even when he did receive the pass, he was picked off multiple times, twice in goal-line situations. Rookie safety Kamren Kinchens recorded two interceptions in his own end zone; one of which was a 103-yard pick-six return late in the second half.

A fourth-and-one stop from the defensive front in overtime gave the Rams a chance to win the game, and they did just that with a touchdown pass to Robinson. If it wasn’t for the clutch turnover on downs, they would never have been in a position to win the game.

Stafford Continues to Be Clutch

There is something to be said for the whole team playing free football which resulted in victory. Admittedly, the win would not have been possible without the impressive ability of veteran point guard Matthew Stafford down the stretch.

Stafford led his 46th career game-winning drive on Sunday and scored his 366th career touchdown pass, which puts him 10th all-time in career touchdown passes. His health and consistency rank among the best quarterbacks in NFL history, and he once again displayed that in comeback style.

When the Rams are tied or trailing with a few minutes left in the game, there is no other quarterback a team would want to lead them on the field to win the game. Stafford was born with the clutch gene and has played with it since entering the league 16 years ago.
