Delphi murders: Footage of Richard Allen in prison shown to jury as defense questions validity of confessions

Members of Richard Allen’s family testified for the first time in the Delphi murders trial, with the defense arguing that his mental health while in custody led to questionable confessions.

Allen’s defense team questions his prison confessions and enlists a neuropsychologist and family members to support their case.

Dr. Polly Westcott testified that Allen’s mental health deteriorated in prison, leading to severe depression and psychosis; His lawyers say those circumstances may have influenced his confessions.

Last week, a state witness claimed Allen was faking his strange behavior.

On Monday, Allen’s daughter and half-sister disputed parts of Allen’s confessions, denying that he molested them.

The jury also watched additional footage of Allen in prison, which was presented to protect his dignity because it contained disturbing images.

The trial is expected to last until mid-November.

Allen is charged with the 2017 murders of Abby Williams and Libby German.
