Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance highlights landmarks

“It’s important for us to reach the communities we serve and spark conversations about our lifesaving work and exciting plans,” said Keith Wilson, HIOWAA’s director of revenue and engagement.

The air ambulance service currently has two locations, with operations near Andover and the assistance team in Southampton.

It was stated that approximately 70 per cent of calls were in the south of the region (Winchester, Southampton, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight).

“This currently requires a minimum flight time of 15 minutes from the existing base,” the charity said.

The service said moving to a more central location would mean it could reach almost every patient in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight within 10 minutes of take-off.

Specialist paramedic Nick Gray said: “Every second we save could mean the difference between life and death, or between every patient returning to the life they had before.”
