Disabled driver arrested after crashing into multiple vehicles and fire hydrants, causing road closures and closures

On Halloween night in Oviedo, a driver crashed into three vehicles, hit a fire hydrant and caused the road to collapse. The driver was injured and arrested, according to Oviedo Police.

On Thursday, October 31, at approximately 10 p.m., Oviedo Police and Fire responded to a reported vehicle crash on Oviedo Boulevard just north of Mitchell Hammock Road.

While one of the ambulances was carrying a patient, the rear of the vehicle fell to the collapsed ground as a result of the driver hitting a fire hydrant.

The Seminole County Fire Department was called to assist in transporting the patient as the other ambulance was stranded.

The ambulance was removed from the collapsed road with the help of a tow truck.

There were no other injuries.

However, Oviedo police officers later determined that the driver of the vehicle that crashed into three cars and the fire hydrant were impaired.

The driver, Robert W. Garcia, was taken to the Seminole County Jail and charged with DUI and refusal to submit to a DUI test.

While Oviedo Public Works teams arrived at the scene and assessed the damage, it was determined that the hydrant shut-off valves were broken after the accident.

Around 9 a.m., a valve was placed on Oviedo Avenue and the flow of water was stopped.
