Just before 11 p.m. on Oct. 29, Rockford police responded to the 400 block of Montague Street to report shots fired. Police said when they arrived, they found multiple vehicles and a house that had been shot at.

Eyewitnesses at the scene told police that the gunshots came from a vehicle. When police attempted to pull over the suspect vehicle, officers say it drove away, crashed into a pole near Montague and Sanford avenues, and the two men fled.

A short time later, the SCOPE officer and Rockford Police K-9 located Dexter, believed to be the passenger, and took him into custody. They say they also found Thompson and identified him as the driver. The person injured in the accident was taken to a local hospital.

Investigators reported finding a loaded handgun outside the vehicle.

Both Dexter and Thompson were taken to the Winnebago County Jail. Dexter is expected to appear in court on October 30 and Thompson on October 31.
