Nuno Tavares rewarded for his superb form at Lazio as Portugal call-up

Roberto Martínez has named Portugal’s squad for their final two Nations League group matches against Poland and Croatia next week.

Left-back Nuno Tavares was rewarded with his first Seleção call-up for his outstanding start to the season for Lazio (eight assists in nine games).

Due to the injuries of Rúben Dias and Gonçalo Inácio, Porto defender Tiago Djaló was included in the squad. The 24-year-old player was previously called by former Portugal coach Fernando Santos in 2022, but did not take the field.

The 26-man squad, based on selections made last month, also includes comeback goalkeeper José Sá and midfielders Matheus Nunes and Pedro Gonçalves.

Portugal will host Poland at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto on November 15 and then finish their Group A1 campaign by traveling to Split to play Croatia.

The Seleção need a point to secure their place in the Nations League quarter-finals but will be keen to win the group, which theoretically increases their chances of a better draw in the last eight. Portugal are currently three points ahead of second-place Croatia.
