The men have been convicted in several cases over the past three years

Twenty men have been jailed for raping and sexually abusing four teenage girls in West Yorkshire.

Police said the offenses took place in the Calderdale area between 2001 and 2010, when the girls were aged between 12 and 16.

The men appeared at several separate hearings at Bradford Crown Court from 2021, but the results can now only be reported for legal reasons.

Mohammed Akhtar, 54, was convicted of rape and sentenced to 11 years in prison, but died while serving his sentence.

The investigation began in 2016, when the first case was reported to the police.

The longest sentence was given to Malik Quadeer, 67, of Halifax, who was found guilty of five counts of rape and sentenced to 22 years in prison.

The other 18 people are as follows:

  • Amir Shaban, 48, of Halifax, convicted of rape and sentenced to 10 years in prison
  • Muhammad Ziareb, 55, of Halifax, convicted of rape and sentenced to 10 years in prison
  • Imran Raja Yasin, 45, of Halifax, convicted of rape and sentenced to 10 years in prison
  • Kamran Amin, 48, of Halifax, was found guilty of rape and sentenced to seven years and six months in prison.
  • Saquab Hussain, 46, of Halifax, was convicted of rape and sentenced to seven years and six months in prison.
  • Haroon Sadiq, 40, from Halifax, was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 10 years in prison.
  • Shafiq Ali Rafiq, 44, from Dewsbury, convicted of rape and sentenced to 12 years in prison
  • Sarfraz Rabnawaz, 39, from Bradford, was convicted of rape and sentenced to nine years in prison.
  • Shahzad Nowaz, 45, of Halifax, who was found guilty of rape and threatening to kill, was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
  • Nadeem Nassir, 44, of Halifax, was convicted of rape and threatening to kill and sentenced to 11 years in prison.
  • Sajid Adalat, 48, of Halifax, was convicted of rape and sentenced to seven years in prison.
  • Sohail Zaffer, 41, of Halifax, pleaded guilty to rape and supplying class C drugs and was sentenced to three years and six months in prison. He is not shown in the picture because he has already served his sentence.
  • Shazad Nazir, 49, of Halifax, was convicted of rape and sentenced to 11 years in prison.
  • Nadeem Adalat, 39, of Halifax, was convicted of rape and sentenced to 14 years in prison. He appealed the sentence and the sentence was increased to 16 years.
  • Asad Mahmood, 38, of Halifax, was convicted of rape and sentenced to 13 years in prison.
  • Muhammad Rizwan Iqbal, 39, of Halifax, was found guilty of rape and sentenced to nine years in prison.
  • Vaseem Adalat, 38, of Halifax, was convicted of rape and sentenced to 12 years in prison. Following the objection, this period was increased to 14 years and 6 months.
  • Craig Mitchell, 55, of Halifax, was convicted of rape and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Det Ch Insp Claire Smith, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “This is a heinous crime that has a lifelong impact on victims and survivors.

“I hope that emphasizing the prosecution of these criminals will serve as a reminder that we will continue to do all we can to put perpetrators behind bars and protect victims and survivors.”

He added: “It is never too late to report child sexual abuse. I would encourage anyone who was abused as a child to talk to someone and seek support.

“Reports of non-recent abuse are dealt with by officers who are specifically trained to support victims and survivors and deal with such sensitive cases.”
