Colerain man arrested for Dollar General murder in August

BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – An East Carolina man is behind bars for a murder that occurred at a discount store in August, deputies said.

In a statement released this evening, the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office said Robert Wilson of Colerain was arrested for the murder of William Johnson.

Around 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 31, deputies said they were called to the Dollar General in Merry Hill after gunshots were heard.

When they arrived, deputies said they found Johnson had been shot multiple times. The 60-year-old Plymouth man died a short time later.

Wilson, 59, was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was placed in Bertie-Martin prison without any bail.
