LAGRANGE, Ga. – Human remains were found Thursday near LaGrange elementary school.

According to the LaGrange Police Department, a construction worker came across human remains near Ann Bailey Way and Scholar Lane just after noon.

Preliminary tests confirmed that the remains were human, and assistance was requested from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The remains were taken to the crime lab in Atlanta for autopsy, authorities said. The ongoing investigation aims to identify the deceased and determine the cause of death.

The site is near Franklin Forest Elementary School. There were no reports that the incident disrupted school activities.
