ORIGINAL:

The Colorado State Patrol said officers were hit by an oncoming vehicle while investigating the crash scene.

Officers were working on a crash that caused property damage in Golden on Wednesday afternoon. “An officer was in the police cruiser prior to the crash scene, and there were two other officers manning the crash site when a passing vehicle entered the scene. Both officers at the original crash scene were crushed and forced under the original crashed vehicle, CSP said in a press release.

One of the police officers died at the scene, while the other was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver who hit the officers was arrested on suspicion of impairment.

“Our thoughts are with the members of the Golden Police Department and the friends and families of the officers involved,” CSP said.
