Pascual Aca Cuahuizo

PIERCETON — A man was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated and causing serious injury to another motorist.

Pascual Aca Cuahuizo, 40, of Westfield, is charged with causing serious bodily injury while operating a motor vehicle with an ACE of 0.08 or greater, a level 5 felony; and knowingly or intentionally driving without a license, a class C misdemeanor.

On October 16, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a vehicle crash at US 30 and CR 250S in Pierceton. Aca Cuahuizo was driving a Volkswagen Jetta and failed to yield the right of way to a Dodge Ram driven by Jackson Becher.

According to court documents, the crash sent Becher’s vehicle onto the roof. Deputies noticed Aca Cuahuizo was showing signs of physical intoxication.

Aca Cuahuizo told deputies he had a shot of tequila about two hours before the crash. He failed a field sobriety test and tested 0.18% BrAC on a portable breath test. Certified chemical test results are pending.

Becher was taken to Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital after suffering a broken collarbone, abdominal and chest wall contusions and a rotator cuff injury. Leonardo Aca Cuahuizo, one of the passengers in Pascual’s vehicle, had scratches on his face.

Pascual has already been arrested and released on bail.
