Red Sox Seen as Debut Favorites Projected for $129 Million ace in Stunning Blockbuster

The Boston Red Sox have been playing pointless baseball for too long, and it’s time for the front office to step up.

Last winter, it looked like Boston would finally make the necessary additions to turn things around, before Red Sox baseball chief Craig Breslow decided to take a more conservative approach, contributing to another lackluster season.

Fortunately, speculation suggests this winter will be different for Boston. The latest exciting rumor has the Red Sox looking like this: landing favorites He is one of the most admired young players in the league.

According to Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, “With such depth of high-quality position players, there is a widespread perception that the ‘(Red) Sox could trade for almost anyone.” MLB.com reported Thursday. “Many starters could be options for the pitching-needy Red Sox, but one that stands out is (Chicago) White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet.”

Crochet posted a 6-12 record for the White Sox in 2024 with a 3.58 ERA, a 33-for-209 strikeout-to-walk ratio, a .222 batting average and a 1.07 WHIP in 146 innings pitched.

The talented left-handed pitcher is reportedly attracting more interest from other teams at this summer’s trade deadline, where he is being heavily pursued by big-market clubs looking to strengthen their rotation for a deep playoff run.

The 25-year-old announced he would not pitch in the postseason if given a contender, and as a result, Crochet finished the year with the 121-loss White Sox, the worst team in baseball history.

Although Boston’s rotation ranked 7th with a 3.81 ERA this season, an upgrade may be needed after a shaky 2024 season that proved the Red Sox still need a good ace.

According to SpotracThe youngster currently has an estimated market value of about $129 million on a seven-year deal, which works out to about $18 million annually. Fortunately, Crochet is under team control through 2026, so Boston won’t have to worry about hanging on to him long-term if the White Sox can acquire the ace this winter.

The Crochet trade would likely cost the Red Sox several top prospects, so it will be interesting to see if Breslow is willing to sacrifice potential future pieces for the left-handed phenom.
