Man convicted of killing woman was ‘waiting’ for her, prosecutors say

FRANKLIN, Ohio — After a two-day trial, the judge ruled that 28-year-old Elijah Thomas was guilty of murdering 23-year-old Katelyn Puckett at her home in Franklin, Ohio.

Thomas was convicted of one count of aggravated murder with the specification of a firearm, two counts of murder and one count each of aggravated assault and improper discharge of a weapon into a habitation.

Warren County Prosecutors said GPS data showed that on June 17, 2023, Thomas waited for her at Puckett’s home for more than 30 minutes, then she and others returned around midnight.

He then approached Thomas Puckett in front of multiple witnesses and killed him by firing nine shots, six of which hit him, according to prosecutors. Family members told police that Thomas made numerous violent threats to Puckett in the days and weeks before the murder.

Police were called to the 100 block of Boulder Drive around 12:39 that morning, where they found Puckett shot multiple times. Despite the efforts of first responders to save his life, Puckett died at the scene.

Thomas was taken into custody hours later during a police traffic stop around 9:42 a.m.

Thomas will be formally sentenced at a later date, but the charges on which he was convicted carry at least a mandatory life sentence.
