Students were hospitalized after a school bus collided with a car

PARMA, Mich. (WILX) – Multiple students were hospitalized after their bus crashed into a car Thursday morning.

Western School District Superintendent Michael Smajda sent a letter to parents detailing two separate crashes.

The first incident happened on Dearing Road, just south of the high school. Two cars carrying West High School students were involved in a minor collision, resulting in damage to both cars. First responders evaluated the students and determined they did not require additional medical attention.

The second involved the number 27 bus and a car at the intersection of Catherine Street and Robinson Road. As a precaution, 3 students were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

“We are optimistic that the students will be okay,” Superintendent Smajda said in his letter. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

According to Smajda, the parents of the students involved in both accidents were called and informed that they could call the school or take their children home if they wanted.

“We are deeply grateful for the quick and compassionate response of our local first responders,” Smajda said. “Their professionalism and care for our students and community members is commendable, and we are grateful for their support.”

The students on bus number 27 got on another bus to go to their primary school.
