Aston Villa news: Morgan Rogers’ England absence explained by Lee Carsley

England interim boss Lee Carsley says Morgan Rogers has “not missed a thing” in his game despite not being included in his final squad.

The Aston Villa midfielder has featured regularly for Unai Emery’s side this season, making 14 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists.

With his current form and progressing through the age groups, many thought the 22-year-old could be called up for his first senior role.

“He’s definitely not missing anything, Morgan is a player I really know and he’s a really important player for the under-21s,” Carsley said.

“I think sometimes the competition at the front determines how fast you go down the road. He’s behind some really strong players but I have no doubt Morgan will get there.”

Carsley will return to his role in charge of the Under-21s in January when Thomas Tuchel becomes Gareth Southgate’s full-time successor, and Carsley added: “He is a very important and important player for the Under-21s at the moment.

“If we win the Euros again with the under-21s in the summer, he will be a really important part of that.”
