JROTC Cadets honor service members at Muscogee County’s Veterans Day Program

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – The Muscogee County School District’s JROTC program held a ceremony honoring those who served in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

On Wednesday morning, the Annual Veterans Day Program was presented in the atrium of the Community Education Center in Columbus. JROTC students attending the ceremony expressed their gratitude to veterans by performing personal readings, as well as the national anthem, wreath-laying and touching. During this time, more than 50 high school students in Muscogee County had the opportunity to showcase their skills, similar to the path taken by men and women in the Armed Forces.

Muscogee County School District Superintendent Dr. “It is important for our students to first understand what this day represents,” said David F. Lewis. “Veterans Day is about representing, acknowledging and recognizing the sacrifices of our military personnel, past and present, both in our country and around the world.”

There are currently more than 1.4 million Americans on duty serving our country; The ceremony was a time to pause and honor them; because Columbus is home to many veterans of Fort Moore.
