Belfast university students are missing classes because of lack of parking

Law and Politics student Ronan Campbell, from Omagh, highlighted the difficulties students from rural communities face when traveling to student accommodation.

“Parking is the hardest part because there is congestion. You come in on a Sunday evening and you get hit, and if you move your car during the week you have a hard time.”

Meanwhile, for Siofra Kearney, driving to college is no longer an option due to the lack of parking spaces.

“I’ll take the bus from Newry. It’s an hour and twenty minute drive, which is longer than it would take me to drive. This is because I can’t park my car or move around the city reliably.

“It’s not a very accessible city for students.”

The ministry said there are numerous car parks and parking and driving areas throughout the city that motorists are encouraged to use.
