A YOUNG 15-year-old girl has died suddenly at a school in Scotland.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at the Border yesterday.

Police were called to Jedburgh Grammar School but it is understood there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

The school, which has more than 400 students, closed early today.

In a statement sent to parents, Lesley Munro, Director of Education and Children’s Services at Scottish Borders Council, said: “Following the critical incident at the school on Tuesday, we would like to confirm that supports will be completed on Wednesday. We want to support the school community at this difficult time.

“These supports will include educational psychologists, trained officers, school staff and partners who will be available for as long as they are needed.

“If you have any concerns about your child or children, please do not hesitate to contact the school through their classroom or pastoral teacher, or whatever your normal method of contact is.

“As I am sure you understand, it is not appropriate to continue with planned events at this time and parent meetings planned for this week will be postponed to a later date.”

Local councilor Scott Hamilton He wrote on social media yesterday: “I have been made aware of reports of a tragic and critical incident at Jedburgh Grammar Campus earlier today.

“My thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. I know the team both on Campus and at the SBC will work to support everyone affected.”

Jedburgh Grammar School held parent meetings and other events. events It was put on hold this week after tragedy.

Educational psychologists and trained officers were called in to assist students affected by the tragedy.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At around 2.55pm on Tuesday 5 November 2024, we were called to a school in the Jedburgh area following concerns about a 15-year-old girl.

“The police and ambulance intervened, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

“The death is not believed to be suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
