Maui woman dies from injuries days after Haiku crash

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A 44-year-old woman who was seriously injured in a crash in Haiku on Halloween morning has died, Maui police said Wednesday.

She has been identified as Shelly Kan-Hai of Kahului.

The crash happened on West Kuiaha Road just before 6 a.m. on Oct. 31.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Kia Sorento traveling southbound left the roadway, struck a fence and overturned.

Police said Good Samaritans rescued two people – Kan-Hai and a 2-year-old girl – from the vehicle.

Kan-Hai was unresponsive and was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition. He died from his injuries on Tuesday.

Police said the little boy was not injured.

MPD is still investigating whether speed, alcohol and drugs were factors.
