Super Typhoon Yinxing: Hong Kong will issue a T1 warning between noon and 3pm on Friday

The Hong Kong Observatory will issue warning signal No. 1 between noon and 3 p.m. on Friday due to the super typhoon that is predicted to blow south of the city.

Super Typhoon Yinxing is expected to move within 800 km (497 miles) of Hong Kong around midnight, the weather forecaster said on Thursday.

“As Yinxing slowly approaches the coast of southern China, the Observatory will broadcast standby signal No. 1 between noon and 15:00 (on Friday),” the forecaster said.

“Since Yinxing’s circulation is relatively small, whether a higher tropical cyclone warning signal will be issued depends on the distance between Yinxing and the Pearl River Estuary, the change in intensity, and the change in local wind conditions.”

Yinxing, which means ginkgo seed in Chinese, turned into a super typhoon on Wednesday.

The forecaster said fewer showers were expected off the coast of Guangdong province over the weekend, while conditions offshore and at higher elevations would be windy.
