Police find woman’s body in freezer during welfare check in east valley

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said they are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found in a freezer during a welfare check in the east valley.

Around 11:41 a.m. Wednesday, the caller found the body in the 5500 block of Tres Piedras Road after receiving a request for a welfare check, Metro said.

Initial details of the caller’s request said the caller noticed that the 68-year-old woman, who lived at the Tres Piedras residence and was regularly seen walking her dog, had not been seen outside her home since late October.

The caller requested authorities do a welfare check, and the caller also said they noticed some suspicious activity at the home.

Police said that they came to the scene and contacted the caller, but when they went to the house, no one opened the door. They determined they had enough information to gain entry to ensure the safety of the 68-year-old woman.

Police said that they immediately encountered a man and a woman at the residence, whom the authorities were not looking for, they acted suspiciously, and they could not determine the whereabouts of the 68-year-old woman living in the residence.

A search of the home was conducted, where police said they found a locked freezer.

Police said that during welfare checks it is common for them to identify containers suitable for the size of the person they are looking for. So police said they called a locksmith to open the freezer, where they found something that appeared to belong to the 68-year-old woman.

Detectives are investigating this now like He said that it was a murder, but that it was actually a suspicious death investigation unless they could determine whether another person killed the 68-year-old woman. Police said based on preliminary details of their investigation so far, they could not rule it an official homicide.

Detectives said they are still trying to determine the relationship between the 68-year-old woman and two people in the residence, but they said they may have been roommates. Police said two people are currently in custody.

Detectives also said this did not appear to be a random act.

Anyone with information is asked to contact LVMPD Homicide Division or Crime Stoppers of Nevada.
