More than 790,000 candidates start PLE due to special needs concerns

More than 790,000 Primary Seven candidates have started writing their Primary School Leaving Examinations today. 3 thousand 2 hundred 95 students with special needs are participating in the exams that will end tomorrow. At the Uganda School for the Deaf in Ntinda, where 24 hearing-impaired students sat for exams, concerns were raised about the deployment of invigilators who were unfamiliar with students with special needs and struggled to communicate effectively with them. As David Ijjo reports, the Uganda National Examinations Board has been called upon to increase the training and deployment of examiners proficient in sign language to assist these candidates.
