New speed cameras to patrol busy section of the A6 in Leicestershire

Speed cameras are set to patrol the A6 throughout Leicestershire.

The 30-mile-per-hour stretch of road through Kibworth Harcourt will be added to a list of areas of “community concern” visited by speed camera vans, the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership said.

Leicestershire Police Sergeant Peter Jelbert said in a message to villagers that monitoring would take place from November for at least a year.

He stated that this period could be extended up to 18 months.

Members of the public can nominate any road in Leicestershire and Rutland to be considered for the social concern programme, but not all are monitored.

Partnership spokesman Jonathan Clarkson has previously said evidence of speeding and crashes is needed.

Only the A6 to Kibworth will be added in November but In September, 15 trails were approved for monitoring.

The addition of the A6 follows a speed investigation carried out north of the Wistow Road roundabout, which found evidence of drivers routinely traveling faster than the limit.

Sergeant Jelbert said locations had been identified for patrols both north and south of the intersection.
