Sam Brown leads Jacky Rosen in Nevada’s US Senate race

This story has been updated as more election returns come in.

Nevada looks set to have another exciting run in the U.S. Senate race, as early results show Republican challenger Sam Brown defeating Democratic incumbent Jacky Rosen by just under 1 percentage point.

This can be considered as a great sadness. Polls and election forecasts showed Rosen with a strong lead throughout the campaign.

Still too close to call though. In 2022, Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto retained her U.S. Senate seat with late votes from Clark County, giving her victory with just 8,000 votes out of nearly 1 million.

Brown was late in the final two weeks of the election $6.2 million increase in ad money From Mitch McConnell’s Senate Leadership Fund.

The planned ad buy appeared to be inspired by Republicans’ optimism that Donald Trump could win Nevada. If so, Trump would be the first Republican to win the state since 2004.

Rosen has been steadily ahead in the polls, but Trump’s coattails could help Brown beat expectations.

In 2022, Democratic incumbent Catherine Cortez Masto prevailed over Republican challenger Adam Laxalt by barely 8,000 votes. Laxalt was helped by the strong performance of Republican Joe Lombardo, who edged incumbent Democrat Steve Sisolak in the governor’s race.

It appears that Trump’s good performance in Nevada has strengthened Brown. It may be one of the last Senate races to be called because it is so close.
