San Jose hit-and-run suspect arrested, tried for murder

Edward Herrera kills a pedestrian in San Jose

Authorities arrested a San Jose resident Wednesday accused of a hit-and-run that resulted in the city’s 27th homicide for 2024.

Edward Herrera is accused of striking a pedestrian in the area of ​​North Capitol Boulevard and Berryessa Road around 5 a.m. Monday. When officers arrived, they found a man unconscious and not breathing trapped under the van.

Police said the investigation determined Herrera knew the victim and the collision was intentional. Police arrested Herrera the same day in San Jose and booked him into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for murder.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
