Harare Magistrates Court

A 42-year-old man appeared in the Harare Magistrates Court facing seven charges of armed robbery and one count of illegal possession of a firearm.

The suspect, Spencer Mapfumo, appeared before Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa and remanded him in custody until tomorrow.

The State alleged that in October this year, Mapfumo and his accomplices, who are still at large, broke into a house in Harare after being confronted by a security guard.

They allegedly hit the complainant on the head with a metal bar.

Suspected robbers ransacked the house and stole ZiG6 802 along with $27,270.

Last month, suspects used the same method against a security guard at a property.

As two members of the gang made their way towards the reception, they threatened to shoot him if he did not follow instructions, where they forced open the door with iron bars.

The court heard the defendants attacked the complainants while demanding money.

They fled with $30,000 in cash.
