Sturgis man pleads not guilty to charges related to October standoff

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – A Sturgis man pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges related to an October standoff at the Meade County Courthouse.

Daniel O’Crotty, 43, is charged with harassment, simple assault, false imprisonment and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The charges stem from an Oct. 17 incident in which O’Crotty allegedly took his girlfriend’s car.

He is accused of returning drunk and refusing to give back the keys.

O’Crotty then became violent and prevented his girlfriend from escaping, even throwing her to the ground, according to court documents.

This led to a stalemate when the Rapid City Pennington County Special Response team became involved.

The probable cause affidavit in the case states that his girlfriend claimed she feared for her life during the ordeal.

O’Crotty’s next hearing is scheduled for November 13.
