Boise State’s Latrell Caples suggests opponents focus on ruining teammate Ashton Jeanty’s Heisman hopes

Boise State wide receiver Latrell Caples offered a theory about the game plans the Broncos have faced this season.

From Caples’ perspective, opposing teams have expended a significant amount of energy trying to implement methods they hope will slow down the running back. Ashton Jeanty. While defensive coordinators are certainly focused on Jeanty, he believes receivers are also tempted by the opportunity to thwart the running back’s Heisman Trophy dreams.

“We’re playing conference teams,” Caples said. “They’re trying to put that on hold and prevent Ashton from winning the Heisman. Ultimately, we’re trying to win the game, so we win the game by executing our fundamentals at a higher level than they are.”

Jeanty is in the midst of one of the most productive seasons in recent memory college football history. Jeanty has rushed for 1,525 yards on 190 carries in eight games so far this season.

It’s also possible that Jeanty could surpass Barry Sanders’ single-season record of 2,628 yards receiving. Sanders made his mark in 1988, the last season of his career. Oklahoma State. Sanders won the Heisman Trophy in 1988 and was the third overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft.

Caples stated that opposing teams were selling him in a way that made him believe that winning the real football game was not the first priority. The receiver noted the number of players coaches sent to the penalty area to prevent the running game.

“So they’re not trying to win, so I’d say that,” Caples said. “You don’t win every game by putting nine guys in the box.”

Caples appears to have benefited from Jeanty’s increased attention. He led the team with 90 yards receiving and three touchdowns in last week’s 56-24 victory over San Diego State.
