Police: Man drove tractor trailer using drugs and caused fatal crash

A New Jersey man is accused of driving while drugged and causing a fatal crash in Rotterdam.

The accident occurred on I-90 at around 22:14 on Tuesday. State Police say Manuel E. Aristyarias, 59, of Passaic, New Jersey, was driving westbound near Exit 25A when he crashed into the back of another tractor trailer. It was announced that the driver of the vehicle, a Canadian citizen, died at the scene. His identity is being kept secret until his relatives are notified.

Aristyarias was charged with driving under the influence of drugs. He was given a hearing and is expected to appear in Rotterdam City Court on December 2.

The highway was closed between Exit 25 and Exit 26 until 5:45 a.m.
